Dragons Uzbekistan Tour – Part 1

Westminster University students arrived safely in Tashkent in the early hours of the morning on the 1st March 2023 ready to compete and experience the culture of Uzbekistan!

Day 1 was a packed day visiting our partner school Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT), exploring the student and sports facilities, a tour on the city bus, and seeing a local mosque and the city landmarks.

Day 2, our students had an early start experiencing a traditional Uzbekistan polo game with unique experience such as archery and tug-of-war with the local army. This was followed by visiting the Mega Sports Complex. This famous fighting gym has trained several professional fighters, including an Olympic Champion. For fun, our two Dragons, Aundre Reid coached by Kamari Hunter and Rinor Dragusha coached by Adrian Quinteros went head-to-head in a boxing exhibition. Guess who won?

After lunch, in the late afternoon, the Dragons completed the city tour by visiting a classic market and learning about art through Rakhimov’s Ceramic Studio

Day 3 and 4 will see our Dragons train and compete in their first ever university matches in Uzbekistan.
