Westminster wins BUCS Division 1 for the first time in history!

Dragons 2022-23 – Week 13 Results

Westminster get redemption over their defeat to Kings College earlier in the season, by beating them emphatically 56-90 at their home ground and officially winning the BUCS Division 1 South-Eastern Conference!

Westminster have been in BUCS Division 1 for two seasons, narrowly losing out to Hertfordshire last year 2021-22 for the championship. This championship is Head Coach Clive Castillo’s fifth BUCS Championship since 2017, and will be looking for his third promotion in the BUCS Premier Playoff.

The University of Westminster Vice-Chancellor Peter Bonfield, along with the Dragons coaching staff Tiago Miguel (Strength & Conditioning Coach) and Gerald Aguilar (GA Therapy, Soft Tissue Therapist) were among the supporters on game day.

The Dragons have now booked a place in the BUCS Premier Playoff for the first time, the winner of the playoffs will have the opportunity to play in the top university division of basketball in the UK. The playoff opposition for Westminster will be the winner of BUCS D1 Western Conference, who is currently led by the Cardiff Met Archers.

Note: the University of Westminster has never had a sport team in the BUCS Premier Division – basketball can continue to make history.
